Living by the Danube seems a very attractive idea, however it poses some risks. Although rare, the river does occasionally burst its banks. The most significant episode in recent times was in 2013 when heavy rain led to devastating consequences for surrounding land in some areas. People adapt though, and many houses we’ve passed are built up on stilts to protect the main living area.
